Packing Up the Classroom

I can't count the number of times I've packed up my classroom. I've now taught 15 years, and I have changed schools and grade levels often. I'm one of those people that always enjoys change. Yes, I know. I'm weird. I like change because it constantly keeps me thinking and growing and creating.

However, I've never packed up my classroom because I'm moving overseas. Now that's a different story. I'm not taking anything teaching wise with me except a couple of things. One of my girls would like me to bring her with me to South Korea. She thinks she could fit in my big suitcase. Sweet girl.

My classroom is always colorful and bright. Now, however, it's pretty bare. I've taken down the posters, the bulletin boards, Texas A&M flags and decorations, and all the anchor charts.

By the way, if you're wondering about ALL the Texas A&M stuff and my obsession, let me tell you. First of all, I went to Texas A&M University, and I absolutely loved it. I am one proud Aggie. Second, my school is a NEU campus, which means "No Excuses University". Every classroom adopts a college and promotes that college with their students. Bet ya can't guess which college I chose? Of course you can! The teachers teach the students the college chant and fight song. I taught my students the Aggie yells and the Aggie War Hymn, and I think I've got some future Aggies in that class. In fact, I know I do. I have truly loved introducing my college to my students. We have had a great time with it this year.

My clean, sad, bare white board.

I've given away tons of stuff...from games to files to posters. I've told my students that I will be moving away for a year. They of course want me to come back and teach at their school when I come back. Yeah, we'll see about that.

I am trying to keep to a minimal the things that I'm storing in my garage. It's actually quite liberating getting rid of things that you don't use much. I'm even having an auction so that my students can buy things with their Aggie Bucks.

I have it narrowed down to 2 boxes, and 2 crates of books and Aggie goodies. Can you believe that? I know. I'm shocked too.

Box #1 - Have to keep my Bloom's wheel and joke books

Box #2

My Aggie goodies...and yes, there are more. No I'm not obsessed or anything. I just bleed Maroon! The basketball was actually a present given to me by a girl in my very first class. And I still have it.

I cannot tell you just how excited I am to get started on this adventure. This is going to be THE experience of a lifetime, and I can't wait to share it with you!

I hope you follow my blog so you can experience it with me. Please feel free to comment and ask questions. It's nice to know that people are actually reading it. :)

Also, guess what? Only THREE days left of school! Whoop!
